RED KITE TREASURE ADVENTURE—
an interactive performance experience for children on the autism spectrum, ages 4-14

An interactive theatrical experience called the Red Kite Treasure Adventure, will be presented by 4th Street Theater in Chesterton. It is written, directed and performed by the Chicago Children’s Theatre with music and sensory moments created specifically for children on the autism spectrum, ages 4-14. The children’s enjoyment and participation are the focus. Normally disruptive behavior is no problem.

Four 50-minute sessions with no more than10 participants each are offered on Sunday, October 8th, at 4th Street Theater, 125 N. Fourth St. in Chesterton. A donation of $5.00 per child is suggested, but not required. Children must be pre-registered and enrolled in one of the sessions in order to attend. No walk-ins will be accepted and it is not open to be seen by the public. Parents, caregivers and family ONLY, in addition to staff and invited professionals. At least one parent or caregiver must accompany the child.

ABOUT THE SHOW

“Red Kite Treasure Adventure is an interactive theater experience with live music and sensory moments created specifically for young people on the autism spectrum, ages 4-14. Audience members will join the chivalrous Oswald and his precocious siblings on their harrowing journey to track down a rare Chinese vase. Their adventure leads them to Chinatown where they arrive just in time for New Year’s festivities, dragon puppets, fireworks and lanterns. After conquering their fears (and a sea serpent named Gong Gong) our heroes return home with a newfound appreciation for bravery, honesty and family tradition. Inspired by characters from Edith Nesbit’s The Story of the Treasure Seekers, this intimate production creates a safe and exciting theatrical environment for young people with autism and their families.”

For years children in Chicago have loved this intimate, interactive event, and 4th Street Theater is excited to be bringing this program to Northwest Indiana for the first time.

To register, go to www.4thstreetncca.com and complete a short questionnaire and registration. You will receive a call from Jude Tanter, who is producing the program and is liaison with Chicago Children’s Theatre. You may also contact Jude if you have questions.
