OPENING AT 4TH STREET THEATER IN DOWNTOWN CHESTERTON THURSDAY MARCH 27TH

The production will run from Thursday, March 27th through Sunday, April 6th. Ten performances are neatly packed into two weekends with 4 matinees and 6 evening performances.

Unlike a traditional musical, Songs for a New World is a song cycle—a collection of standalone yet thematically connected pieces that delve into personal and universal struggles. Each song brings an emotional depth that audiences will find both relatable and inspiring. With a small, powerhouse multi-ethnic cast and a driving, exquisitely crafted score that runs the gamut of musical styles, Songs for a New World is a great way to bring many generations to the theatre.

This contemporary song cycle weaves characters and history together, illuminating the timelessness of self-discovery. It's about one moment. It's about hitting the wall and having to make a choice... or take a stand... or turn around and go back. These are the stories and characters of today.

Songs for a New World is the first musical from Tony Award winning composer and lyricist, Jason Robert Brown (Parade, Bridges of Madison County, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil). This moving collection of powerful songs examines life, love and the choices that we make. Brown transports his audience from the deck of a 1492 Spanish sailing ship to a ledge, 57 stories above Fifth Avenue to meet a startling array of characters that range from a young man who has determined that basketball is his ticket out of the ghetto to a woman whose dream of marrying rich nabs the man of her dreams... and a soulless marriage. We move from expectations of love to expectations of money. The show is a beautiful and moving collection of stories that speak to the challenges and triumphs of the human experience. In the finale, we discover that our hopes and dreams will continue to help light the way to a new world.
