4th Street Theater presents

The Bridges of Madison County, the Musical

Chesterton’s 4th Street Theater presents The Bridges of Madison County, The Musical. Forbidden love, self-discovery, summertime secrets and lust abound in this stage adaptation based on the novel by Robert James Waller. Book by Marsha Norman. Music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown. When Robert, a ruggedly handsome National Geographic photographer, shows up in the driveway of Italian beauty, Francesca, to ask for directions, sparks immediately begin to fly. Francesca, a dutiful wife and mother, suddenly finds herself questioning her past as she contemplates the possibility of a bright new future. Her family has gone to the Iowa State Fair, leaving her to enjoy some much needed alone time. But Robert’s appearance has Francesca daydreaming about anything but being alone. When she closes her eyes, she sees Robert. Until now, her heart has only belonged to her husband and their children. Her husband, a former American serviceman, rescued her from Naples, the most bombed city in Italy. Did she not still owe him her loyalty for providing her an escape route from the death and destruction she left behind, never again to return? Or, was it time for Francesca to rediscover herself, in ways she could have only imagined just a few short days ago? And what about Robert? Until now, he had been comfortable living a nomadic life, looking at the world through his camera lens. Was it time for Robert to discover himself, to remove the camera lens cover that seemed to always separate him from becoming a part of the world around him?

The music will delight you as it draws you into the deceptively simple story of Robert and Francesca. There is a very bluesy feel to it, exciting your soul and your senses. The big talent at this little theater never disappoints. Also bountiful at 4th Street Theater is the incredible sense of camaraderie, as I was reminded of while  sitting down with ensemble member, Brian Brophy, his hands full of paint from helping to build the set. It seems that many members there wear many different hats, always ready and willing to lend a hand when needed.

Director, Glenn Hering, is excited to bring this musical piece to the stage of 4th Street Theater and he proudly proclaims his cast members and crew as both talented and dedicated. Cast members include: Scott Hayes of Monee, IL as Bud, Bob Penney of Valparaiso as Charlie, Kristi Peterson of Chesterton as Marian/Chiara, Michael Ruff of Chesterton as Michael, Holly Schroeder of LaPorte as Marge, Scott Sowinski of Flossmoor, IL as Robert, Georgina Tyderek of Hammond as Carolyn, and Sheree Wheeler-Gudeman of Kouts as Francesca.
